  • Propping Up Old Hardware

I repurposed some old hardware to help my systems run a bit better. I had been running pfSense on a single network interface, and I’m currently in the process of replacing a failing hard drive in another machine. I should be able to regain stability soon. However, it looks like I may need to find new hardware, as things seem to be degrading faster than I can fix them.

  • First Couple Days

Made it to Miami without any major issues despite the shutdown. Stayed at the Pullman. Not a bad motel but not memorable either. Boarding the boat was uneventful. So far I’m pretty happy with Virgin Cruise line. More to follow in the coming days….

  • A Week on my Own

The boys are going stir crazy. Five minutes outside and even my heat seeking bulldog was fading fast. I am trying to adapt to their schedule. They insist…

  • Got Some Drool on the Car

Spending the week in the Seattle area. We drove out to Port Angeles today, and things have changed quite a bit. It doesn’t look anything like it did forty years ago when I lived there—feels kind of run down now.
One highlight was a quick visit to the Game Farm. My rental car now has drool running down the passenger-side door. The murder cows (buffalo) were a bit unnerving as they towered over the car.
I didn’t get too many pictures because, as they warn up front, you’ve got to keep moving—they’ll sometimes abuse a stationary vehicle.

  • Server 2.0 Crash and Burn

Well, I had almost finished setting up a new server when I made the fateful decision to add one more application (Time-shift) to protect a couple of weeks’ worth of configuration efforts. Unfortunately, it completely destroyed my file system.
I did have backups, but they were a bit outdated. Long story short, I’m back up and running. I lost some data, but I’ve been piecing things back together. Hopefully, I’ll get the remaining bugs and glitches sorted out soon.

  • A walk to Hoover Dam

Walking the Railroad Trail to Hoover Dam is a walk we’ve done many times. It’s an easy hike, except for the last mile where the trail drops a couple of hundred feet to the dam. The round trip is eight miles in total. Today, I took James along, and he did quite well, especially for someone who doesn’t usually get much exercise.

  • Random Dog Pictures

    Just because…

    I look stoned….

    What you got there….

Everything is upsidedown for some reason….

I would rather be at the beach

  • Hello world!

When starting to learn a new programming language often your first program is a “Hello World” program. This is my first post on my freshly set up Web Server. I’ll be writing about the process of setting things up eventually. For now I will be focusing on discovering how all of this works

    Stay Tuned…
