Today we are starting to head south. No port today, just getting a walk in and deciding what’s for dinner. The sea is calm and the sun is out. Tomorrow’s port should have much the same weather. I suspect it will start cooling down as we head south. Hopefully, the weather holds up. For the next few ports, we have to tender in. A change in weather could easily result in missing some ports…

Today we went to an olive oil tasting. I’m now educated on some of the differences in various olive oils. The wine and cheese that went along with the event made for a great morning on shore.

May update but for now kicking back and let all the food I just ate digest a bit…:)

Sailing away and three sheets to the wind…)

The first thing I saw when I got out of bed this morning is that our ship had appeared to have parked next to what looks like a grave yard for ships

I’m not sure what to make of this but we are on the other side of the port from this so hopefully our ship won’t be joining this any time soon.

After a bit of coffee eventually went out and wandered the city of Montevideo. Uruguay would be my number one choice of countries to live in if I were to move to South America. Many reasons for this but for today it was definitely the food. I am always amazed at the quality of the steaks I have while in country. Truly though beef in any form is well above and beyond anything I would typically get in the US. We went to Mercado del Puerto and chose one of the restaurants at random. I had a rib steak and a liter of the local beer. Sue had a plate of ribs. OMG we ended up with a lot of food. I think the waiter was trying to tell us that but due to some communication malfunctions we ended up with a lot. We have one more stop in Uruguay tomorrow. I hope to screw up again tomorrow…:)

A Few Pictures of the City

Ending our day. We had a nice dinner on the ship. We decided not to buy a shore excursion for tomorrow. Instead, we found out that the local market will be a great place to eat. I enjoyed the area the last time we visited. On my previous trip, I had the best rib steak of my life. I’m hoping for an equally good or even better one tomorrow.

If I could become proficient in Spanish, I think I could happily live here. I plan to look into real estate prices. It would be a great place to escape the chaos

Yesterday, we left Iguazu for Buenos Aires. The transfer to the airport and the flight were painless. However, it was a bit of a struggle getting from the airport to the ship. The cruise terminal and the airport we flew into are close (there are two airports in Buenos Aires). We had some communication issues at the taxi stand. After a bit of Google Translate and some back and forth with folks at the stand, we were on our way. After a while, the driver pulled over to ask for directions. He got back in and drove another 100 yards, and we were at the terminal. Customs and ship boarding were painless.

We were both quite tired. We had a quick meal at the buffet just before closing and then went to bed. I managed to stay up long enough to post a few pictures before falling asleep.

Today, we’re hanging out on the ship. We browsed and booked a few shore excursions and checked out the dinner menu. We need a day to decompress. Tomorrow, we’ll be in Montevideo, Uruguay. We have nothing planned, but I’m sure we’ll find things to do.

We left the falls today and made our way back to Buenos Aires to our ship. I didn’t have time to post until now. I have too many pictures to share here, but I will try to post more when time permits. Some of the moon walk pictures are quite dark, but believe me, it was very dark out there. Standing by the falls in the middle of the night is an experience that photos just can’t capture

Hotel and Dinner

After almost 30 hours of travel, including layovers in Houston and Buenos Aires, we have arrived at Iguazu Falls. I’m tired, so my writing will be brief tonight. The hotel is nice. We decided to stay at the Gran Meliá Iguazú on the Argentinian side. It’s a comfortable hotel, and we can walk everywhere from here. Staying in town is a bit cheaper, but you have to deal with the crowds to get into the park each day. We were warned to lock the windows because the monkeys are quite smart and will empty out the minibar if they get a chance. We’re not going to let them throw a party while we’re away.

More tomorrow when we get a chance to go out and see the falls.

It’s going to be 24 hours in the air, with a series of airports and various pieces of ground transportation. If all goes well, we will be at a hotel on the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls tomorrow. I’ll keep you updated as time permits.

We are almost ready to go. We’ll be out the door on Thursday and should be in Argentina on Friday morning. We’ll head to Iguazu Falls for a couple of days before joining the ship back in Buenos Aires on Sunday.
